A photodetector 6 which receives the light reflected from the object 1 has a light receiving surface consisting of three areas 6a, 6b, and 6c, and the signal component from the center area 6c and signal components from the other areas 6a and 6b are operated by a signal processing circuit 7, and a motor 9 is driven by the control of a microcomputer 8 to perform focusing.
