PURPOSE:To maintain uniformity of an image and obtain images with favorable quality, by a method wherein a paper having a specified basis weight and a sizing degree and coated with a water base coating material is used as an ink jet recording material, and an ink having a specified surface tension is used. CONSTITUTION:A paper having a basis weight of 50-90g/m<2>, a sizing degree of 5-100sec and a thickness of 60-100mum is used as a base, which is coated with a known water base coating material to produce the recording material. On the other hand, an ink comprises a recording agent, e.g., a dye, and a liquid medium component, and has a surface tension of 20-60dyn/cm<2>, preferably, 35-55dyn/cm<2> at 20 deg.. The liquid medium satisfying the surface tension requirement of the ink is preferably a mixture of water and a water-soluble organic solvent, and the organic solvent is preferably a polyhydric alcohol such as diethylene glycol or an ether thereof. Ink jet recording is performed by using the specified recording material and the specified ink in accordance with a known system. |
