PURPOSE:To obtain a polyethylene having a narrow molecular weight distribution in high yield, by polymerizing ethylene by the use of a highly active catalyst obtained by combining a final solid reaction product supporting a transition metal compound obtained by a specific method with an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is polymerized by using a catalyst obtained by combining (A) a final solid reaction product supporting a transition metal compound obtained by reacting a trivalent metal halide with a bivalent metal hydroxide, oxide, carbonate, double salt containing it, or bivalent metal compound hydrate to give a solid reaction product, reacting this solid reaction product with a transition metal compound of 4a or 5a group, containing no halogen, in the presence of polysiloxane, followed by reacting the reaction product with a halogen-containing transition metal compound of 4a or 5a group in the presence of polysiloxane with (B) an organoaluminum compound (e.g., triethylaluminum, etc.). |
