In order to synchronise the vehicle-side travel measuring devices of a rail vehicle when the boundaries between tracks sections are passed through, there is provision to transmit a so-called change-over identification (USK) to the vehicle when the respective new track section (GI) becomes occupied. This change-over identification remains present until it can be assumed that it has been detected by the vehicle. After this period has elapsed, the track-mounted device (SG) causes the data telegrams (TG) intended for the vehicle to be output. The synchronisation of the vehicle-side travel measuring devices, which is brought about via the change-over identification (USK), is much more accurate than the synchronisation usually brought about by telegram evaluation because the time margin for reception is very much shorter than in telegram transmission. <IMAGE>
