In a trailer having steerable wheels, there is provided a restraining mass which, in response to the lateral acceleration of a turn, applies a steering force to the wheels such that the tyres generate a side force toward the centre of the turn which is equal and opposite to that of the trailer resulting from the acceleration. As a consequence, no net force is exerted on the tow vehicle by the trailer, preserving its handlung characteristics. The steering force is derived from a mass (48) on the trailer acting on a connecting tie-rod (24) through an arm (40) pivoted on the axle (10), or through use of the mass of the trailer itself. |
