A housing (2) is mounted on a base plate (1) in front of the housing, the clamping device (3) is arranged above the base plate. A shaft stub (5) on which the specimen carrier is fastened projects from the housing of the microtome. The shaft stub (5) moves up and down vertically. A hand rest (6) is arranged on each side of the base plate (1) next to the clamping device (3) for the cutting blade(4). The hand rests each have a plane base surface (7) and a hand support surface (8) located opposite the base surface (7) and sloping down outwardly. - The support surfaces (8) of the hand rests have grooves extending parallel to the side edge of the base plate and/or provided with a concavity (9) adjacent the front edge of the base plate (1) remote from the housing (2). The concavity (9) slopes downwardly in the direction of the adjacent side edge of the base olate and in the direction, perpendicular to this, of the front edge of the base plate. |
