PURPOSE:To cast continuously and safely a thick slab at a high speed by using endless belts which are made of an elastic material and move in contact with said belts at the same speed to constitute the closed members on both sides of the endless traveling device in a belt type continuous casting device for the metallic belt. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel is poured into the space 1 constituted of a pair of the endless belts 2, 2 for casting and the side blocks disposed to the parts of both side faces thereof in the belt type continuous casting device. The molten steel is water- cooled to solidify by cooling water nozzles 7 by which the steel slab is produced. The side blocks in such a case are constituted of a pair of the endless belts 12 which are made of the same material as the material of the belts 2, have many rigs 13 on the rear side and are provided with elastic and flexible members 14 made of synthetic rubber, etc. in the part in contact with the belts 2. Cooling water passages are formed between said blocks and the ribs 13. Since the casting space is constituted of two pairs of the endless belts 2, 2 and 12, 12 moving at the same speed, the continuous casting at a high speed is made possible without inducing the injury of both belts as a result of sliding between the belts and without defects such as leakage of the molten steel and breakout of the slab. |
