In this burner-heated tube furnace with radiation zone and convection zone, which is lined with refractory material and equipped with convection tubes protected by movable lamellae, it is envisaged that, to provide protection for the special loads of the product-conducting convection tubes in the event of an emergency switch-off, if as a result the carrying off of heat by the products to be heated inside the tube is interrupted, there be arranged between furnace lining and the tubes, for shielding the heat radiation emerging from the furnace lining at a wall temperature of approximately 700-1200 DEG C, a closed protective wall which consists of controllably movable lamellae, which are built into the furnace both horizontally and vertically, and is formed after corresponding actuation.
