PURPOSE:To record a sharp polychromatic image by using light for image exposure which has such a waveform distribution that the light is transmitted substantially through respective toner particles constituting a toner image which is already formed on an electrostatic sensitive body during image exposure. CONSTITUTION:An image forming process including electrostatic charging, image exposure, and toner development is carried out plural times to form plural toner image of different colors on the electrostatic photosensitive body. Then, the image exposure light uses light having such a wavelength distribution that the light is transmitted substantially through respective toner images forming the toner image which is already formed on the photosensitive body at the time of image exposure. In this case, the toner images of yellow, magenta, and cyan are formed in order and blue light whose wavelength area of a spectrum distribution maximum is not limited specially, green light which has the maximum of the spectrum distribution in a longer-wavelength range than the wavelength where the spectral reflection factor of yellow toner is 40%, and red light which has its spectral maximum in a longer wavelength range than the wavelength where the longer-wavelength side of magenta toner is 40% are used for the image exposure. Thus, a fine polychromatic image is formed. |
