[Also in Division F2] Traction and hoisting apparatus comprising two clamps 33 and 34, Fig. 5, connected in tandem by pivoted levers and links 32, 35, 36 and 40, whereby the operation of a lever 39 causes one clamp to grip the cable whilst the other is simultaneously released, thus enabling a load attached to the cable to be pulled first by one clamp and then by the other. A control member 43 enables the two clamps to be opened simultaneously to release the cable. Each clamp, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a flat jaw 2 and a U- shaped jaw 3, and two pairs of parallel levers 7 and S arranged on either side of the jaws and pivoted to the clamp body 6, the two levers of each pair being rigid with a transverse rod 11 formed with two cam surfaces 13 and 14 and passing through contoured openings in the jaws 2 and 3 in order that the levers, when they pivot, move the gripping surface of one jaw to or away from the gripping surface of the other jaw. A spring 19 permanently urges the gripping surfaces towards one another. |
