Heat treatment process - for low carbon steels

For improving the mechanical properties of low C content steels (0.26% max.) which are unalloyed or only slightly alloyed and are to be used for reinforcing rods. The outer crust of the steel is induction heated at a speed of >=50 degrees/sec. to a temp. above the Ac3 point. After heating of the core by passage of heat from the crust, the steel is suddenly cooled to a temp. above the Ar3 point so that it has a structure almost free from martensite.
