A railway drawbar coupler comprises a draw-bar having an elongated shank and a curved butt end. The drawbar has a slot extending horizontally through the shank. The slot has an upper and lower surface, each having a portion that diverges away from the longitudinal centerline of the drawbar. A follower block has a curved surface abutting the curved butt end of the drawbar and a flat surface. A pocket has a flat interior rear surface, the flat surface of the follower block and of the pocket diverging upwardly. The wedge-shaped shim fits between the flat interior rear surface of the pocket and the flat surface of the follower block.
