A lubricating device for a motor-vehicle gearbox has a gear case which is divided by a partition wall into two spaces of different sizes and accommodates an oil sump. In the region of the oil sump, the two spaces are connected by an approximately horizontal tube which passes through the partition wall. In order to be able to make do with a relatively short tube so that virtually the entire space in the gear case is available for the gear wheels, the lower wall (6a) of the tube (6) is inclined as a rolling track for a closure ball (7) arranged in the tube (6), the said track rising towards the larger space (4) in the gear case. In the larger space (4) of the gear case, the end (6b) of the tube forms a seat (8) for the closure ball (7). The other end (6c) of the tube, the inside diameter of which exceeds the cross-section of the ball, has a retaining means (9) for preventing the closure ball (7) from falling out. <IMAGE>
