Process for consolidating chromium(III) oxide powders and for the firmly adhesive application of such powders to ceramic substrates

A process is proposed which serves for consolidating chromium(III) oxide powders and for firmly adhesive application of such powders to ceramic substrates at relatively low sintering temperatures. For this purpose, the chromium(III) oxide is mixed with chromium or a chromium compound in which the chromium is at a valency stage of less than or more than 3, and this mixture is sintered at temperatures of up to 1100 DEG C. In the case of applying the chromium oxide to a ceramic substrate, preferably Al2O3, alumina is admixed to the chromium oxide. The chromium or the compound with a valency level of the chromium unequal to 3 can either be admixed directly to the oxide, or chromium oxide preforms can be impregnated with the solution of such a chromium compound and then sintered.
