PURPOSE:To save a consumed electric power of a motor in a standby condition by stopping a motor for a scanner when a power source is closed, and automatically activating the motor in case of returning to a transaction operation. CONSTITUTION:During an ordinary operation, when a stop key is pressed down, after a POS terminal 1 carries out a processing of an invalidation with respect to a key input of a goods transaction information input division on a keyboard 31, feeds a motor stop command to a bar code reading device 2 through a signal line 100. A control division 8 of the bar code reading device 2 receiving the command decodes this command, drives a REL12 to open a contact 12a and stops the rotation of a motor 5b. When a restart key is pressed down to return an ordinary operation, the POS terminal 1 feeds a motor start command to the bar code reading device 2. The control division 8 drives the REL12 to close a contact 12a and activates the motor 5b. In this manner, when the POS terminal 1 or the bar code reading device 2 stop, the rotation of the motor 5b can be stopped by a stop key and the like and the electric power can be save.
