PURPOSE:To make reaction in a closed space equally occurs over the entire surfaces of the plates so as to prevent any deterioration of the plates by causing reaction in a sealed space to more easily occur in the bottom areas of the plates than in their upper area under the absence of gravity and using this battery under the presence of gravity. CONSTITUTION:A sealed lead storage battery is assembled by alternately stacking positive plates 1, negative plates 2 and separators 3 in a container 5. In this battery, microporous plates 4 having smaller gas permeability than the separators 3 are brought into contact with the negative plates 2 except their bottom areas 2'. Under the absence of gravity, the upper area of the negative plate 2 touching the microporous plate 4 reacts with oxygen gas produced in the positive plate 1 in a smaller degree than the bottom area 2' of the negative plate 2. When this battery is used under the presence of gravity, a smaller amount of a liquid electrolyte comes to be contained and reaction in a closed space comes to more easily occur in the upper area of the negative plate 2 than in its bottom area 2'. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent any early deterioration of the upper area of the negative plate 2 by making reaction in a closed space equally occur over the entire surface of the plate 2. |
