Mixts. of pantyl (I) and d-panthenol (II) are prepd. directly in a given wt. ratio by treatment of d-pantolactone (III) with a mixt. of 3-ethoxypropylamine (IV) and propanolamine (V). The mol. ratio (IV):(V) used is equiv. to the mol. ratio (I):(II) required. - Pref. prepn. is at up to 80 deg.C for up to 4 hr. to give (I)/(II) in wt. ratio 9:1.
