In this method and the device for recovering the heat flowing off from a heat accumulator (1), a liquid or gaseous fluid is conveyed forcibly through a fluid-conducting structure (4), in countercurrent to the heat flowing off outwards from the heat accumulator (1), in the direction towards an inner casing (3) containing the accumulated medium. The fluid absorbs in this case the major part of the outwardly flowing heat and in doing so, by the time it has reached the outer surface of the inner casing (3), achieves a temperature which is only a little below that at the outer surface of the inner casing (3). The fluid heated in this manner can be used thermodynamically advantageously by e.g. being mixed with the heat accumulator contents or being used for heating or process purposes. <IMAGE>
