A manipulating arrangement for freight containers is arranged on a lifting boom of a vehicle for transporting and stacking a freight container. A bridge fastened to the lifting device accommodates a pair of perpendicularly movable supports. Struts carried by the supports have balls at their top and bottom ends in order to movably support a bearer for latching at the freight container. Fluid-actuated cylinders can be alternatively actuated in order to impart tilting, turning, lateral-displacement and forward and return movements to the bearer. The fluid motors can be actuated in order to lift and lower the supports, according to choice, in order to change the height of the spreader independently of the lifting boom and to impart inclination movements to the bearer.
