In the manufacture of shoes, the front and/or rear caps to be used are in many cases punched out of a flat material containing thermoplastic material, inserted, coated with adhesive, into the shaft and, with heat being applied, adhesively bonded to the shaft and shaped with the latter over the last. According to the invention, the flat material for the caps consists of thermoplastic material and is worked in an unsharpened manner, the ridges and edges of the cap material, which are irritating, taking on a profile which runs out flat with the heating of the deformation.
