The invention relates to an appliance for breaking up the soil on forest surfaces, with the possibility of simultaneously discharging fertiliser in a controlled manner into the broken-up strips produced. The appliance can be mounted on any forestry or agricultural tractor having the necessary traction force by means of the standardised three-point suspension (1 + 2). The soil is broken up by smooth-edge plate discs (5) which peel off the layer of humus in strips from the mineral soil. The depth and width of the broken-up strips can be adjusted. The mounting frame (3) makes it possible to mount a fertiliser spreader (7) on top. This introduces the fertiliser in a controlled manner into the broken-up strips produced via a distributor head (9) and hoses (10). The appliance is used to initiate or assist natural regeneration under beech, spruce or other types of tree. Moreover, when there is a change in the types of tree, sowing or planting in the broken-up strips can be carried out even under the cover of the old wood. <IMAGE>
