PURPOSE:To control and improve a vision characteristic by laminating plural liquid crystal cells having a vision characteristic by which they compensate each other, and driving them so that an image pattern is displayed in the same way on each liquid crystal cell. CONSTITUTION:Cell units 33,35 are laminated on the rear side of a polarizer 31 of the surface side having an absorbing axis 25. The cell units 33, 35 are formed by combining TN type liquid crystal cells 37a, 37b, and polarizers 39a, 39b, respectively, and the absorbing axes 25 of adjacent polarizers of the polarizers 31, 39a and 39b are orthogonal to each other. Rubbing directions 13, 15 of the upper and the lower substrates of the liquid crystal cells 37a, 37b are opposite to each other. When no voltage is applied, a polarization axis of a light which has passed through the polarizer 31 is rotated by 90 deg. by the cell 37a and passes through the polarizer 39a, and also rotated by 90 deg. by the cell 37b and passes through the polarizer 39b. When a voltage is applied, a polarized light which has passed through the polarizer 31 passes through the cell 37a as it is and it is cut off by the polarizer 39a. The unit 33 and 35 have a vision characteristic by which they compensate each other, therefore, a vision characteristic of a display device is improved. |
