PURPOSE:To shorten the length of flaw nondetection at the top of a material to be detected by using a flaw detection water film stabilization signal as a flaw detection start signal. CONSTITUTION:A surface echo height detecting circuit 14 which detects a surface echo height detection signal 15 from a surface echo signal 13 as a reflected echo from the water film 6 of water for ultrasonic flaw detection and the material 1 tobe detected, and a surface echo depth detecting circuit 16 detects a surface echo detection signal 17; and an AND circuit 18 is provided. Then, the AND signal among said surfade echo detection signal 15, surface echo depth detection signal 17, and a contact material start signal 9 operated by a contact material detector 3 is used as the stabilization signal of the water film 6 for flaw detection and regarded as the flaw detection signal 11 to command a signal processing circuit 8 to start the flaw detection, thereby shortening the length of flaw nondetection at the top of the object material. |
