In the case of a system for determining the position of a balloon, the balloon has a transmitter and the direction from which signals emitted by the balloon (1) are coming is determined in a ground station which comprises a distance-measuring device (5), a direction finder (7) and an evaluating device (8). Furthermore, the distance from the balloon is measured in the ground station. The direction-finding data and the distance are used to calculate the position of the balloon. The antenna arrangement of the direction finder is made to track the direction of incidence of the signals of which the direction is to be determined. <IMAGE>
