摘要 PURPOSE:To perform one-to-many switching and mixing of plural light beams at a high speed with low power consumption and high reliability by varying the intensity of a magnetic field applied at right angles to a film surface and the intensity and the direction of a magnetic field applied in the surface. CONSTITUTION:Optical input fibers 4a and 4b are connected across a polarizer 7 to one side of a garnet film 9 as a magnetic material forming a nonionic injection disk 1 (having an ion injected area shown by 3), and an output fiber 5 is connected to the opposite side across an analyzer 8. A magnetic domain 2 is held in the disk 1 by a ferromagnetic material piece provided outside the garnet film 9 with the bias magnetic field HB applied at right angles to the film surface; when no in-face magnetic field Hip is established, the stable position of the magnetic domain 2 is in the center of the disk as shown in a figure, and consequently light from neither the fiber 4a nor 4b is not allowed to pass through the fiber 5. The intensity of the magnetic field perpendicular to the film surface and the intensity and direction of the magnetic field applied in the surface are varied to perform one-to-many switching and light mixing with low power consumption at a high speed.
