APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR BREAKING SAND FREE FROM A PATTERN POCKET IN A MOLD This invention relates to an apparatus and a method for breaking sand free from a pattern having a deep bore. The apparatus is designed to support the pattern on a pattern plate having an aperture coaxially aligned to the deep bore. A stripper block is movably positioned within both the apertures and the bore and is spring biased to a stationary back plate which is supported to the pattern plate. As sand is packed about the pattern and into the bore, the stripper block is forced downward toward the back plate. After the sand is set forming a sand mold, the pattern is removed. Simultaneously, the spring exerts a force on the stripper block causing it to move back to its initial position whereby the sand is broken free from the inside surface of the deep bore.
