PURPOSE:To improve the performance by adopting the constitution such that the length in the track width direction of an upper magnetic layer made of a thin film is longer than the length of yoke, a lower magnetic layer is clipped within a base and the width specifying the track width and a height larger than the width are provided. CONSTITUTION:The lower magnetic layer 2 having a width (d) specifying the track width of the magnetic head and a height (c) larger than the width is clipped in the base 1 of the magnetic head. Thus, since the track width is specified to a small value with the lower magnetic layer even with a thin film or a bulk, the performance of magnetic recording/reproduction to a medium with a high track density is improved. Then the upper magnetic layer 5 having a track width length (a) longer than the length of a yoke (b) is formed to the upper part of the lower magnetic layer 2 and the base 1. Thus, an excellent high frequency characteristic and S/N ratio is attained and a high performance thin magnetic head with less Barkhausen noise is obtained. |
