The method is intended for cooling the motor driving a pump by wall conduction cooling. The heat flow passes downwards through the diverging motor wall (2) and into the pump wall (3) via the parting plane between the two to be dissipated into the pump medium. An O-ring seal (1) is arranged in the parting plane adjacent to its outer perimeter, such that the metallic contact area (A) between the two wall portions is maximised. The radial width (A) of this annular area is preferably 0.1 0.3 times the internal pump diameter (D). The pump may be an immersion pump (as shown) but used with at least the motor housing above the liquid.
