PREPARATION OF 3-CYANO-3,5,5-TRIMETHYLCYCLOHEXANONE

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for epoxy resin curing agents, raw material for laser treatment, etc., by reacting isophorone with prussic acid in the presence of a diaza-bicyclo-alkene. CONSTITUTION:Isophorone is reacted with prussic acid in the presence of a diaza-bicyclo-alkene expressed by the formula (n is an integer 2-11; m is an integer 2-6; either one of the rings may have a lower alkyl substituent group) at 50-200 deg.C for 1-30hr, preferably 80-150 deg.C for 1-10hr to afford the aimed compound. The amounts of the above-mentioned compound to be used on the basis of 1mol isophorone are as follows; 0.5-1.5mol prussic acid and 0.001- 0.5mol diaza-bicyclo-alkene.
