The present invention relates to the cosmetic and/or nutraceutical use of an extract of the plant Lythrum salicaria and/or gallic acid and/or one of the derivatives of gallic acid, in particular vescalagin and/or castalagin, preferably castalagin, in order to maintain and/or increase the expression of collagen in the skin and/or the mucous membranes in order to maintain and/or increase the firmness of the skin and/or mucous membranes and/or to maintain and/or increase lipolysis in the adipocytes of the skin so as to induce a slimming effect in the skin and/or to reduce, prevent and/or treat the unsightly manifestations of cellulite such as, for example, the orange-peel skin and/or jodhpur thighs. Another subject matter of the invention relates to a cosmetic treatment method which includes the preferably topical application of the extract of Lythrum salicaria according to the invention and/or gallic acid and/or one of the derivatives of gallic acid, in particular vescalagin and/or castalagin, preferably castalagin, or a cosmetic composition containing same in order to maintain and/or increase the expression of collagen in the skin and/or the mucous membranes in order to maintain and/or increase the firmness of the skin and/or mucous membranes and/or to maintain and/or increase lipolysis in the adipocytes of the skin so as to induce a slimming effect in the skin and/or to reduce, prevent and/or treat the unsightly manifestations of cellulite such as, for example, the orange-peel skin and/or jodhpur thighs. |
