The packing machine for foodstuffs forms the packages between two cylinders one above the other. Feeds deliver the layers to the respective cylinders. The cylinders are hollow and divided in the peripheral direction into a set of equal compartments each accommodating material to be packed. One cylinder has a welding electrode at each end, also lengthwise electrodes wherever an axial partition in one cylinder between compartments touches that in the other. At this position the second partition has parting cutters extending in the lengthwise direction.
