Speech at a microphone is amplified and passed into a series of band pass filters to provide digitised speech for entry into a processor. The processor converts the samples into parametric data for further processing. Several processors store speech words previously processed to act as gauges and to compare data from the input processor against these words. This process follows a predetermined algorithm and allows storage of the results. - A master processor analyses the results to control data from the other processors. This processor is coupled to a bus which allows connection to a mass memory and to a video terminal. Connection is also provided to a speech synthesiser and loudspeaker. Each processor performs local processing on data stored in the associated shared memory. A data transfer unit is associated with each of the processors and with the associated shared memory and puts at least a portion of the data between the shared memories across the remote bus. - A direct memory access circuit (DMA) prevents interference with local processing of the remaining portions of the data by the processor during the transfer of data. - (24pp)
|
