Transporting and sampling device for monitors for toxic gases

A transporting and sampling mechanism is described. The transporting mechanism feeds a sensitive substrate or tape intermittently past a sampling head. A spring-pretensioned advancing finger is controlled by means of a solenoid so as optionally to come into engagement with the tape (26). The finger is arranged on a reciprocating arrangement (38), by means of which the gripped tape (26) can be gently moved relative to the sampling arrangement (36). The gas sampling mechanism comprises a head arrangement (100) which can be moved between an open position and a closed position in order to allow the tape to be advanced or a sample to be taken. In the closed position, a spring-pretensioned sealing ring ensures an airtight seal around that tape segment through which the air to be monitored is drawn. <IMAGE>
