The invention relates to an overload protection for the drive of the tying device on baling presses for straw, hay and the like. The aim of guaranteeing a better utilisation of the baling press and allowing a lighter design of the drive parts is to be achieved by means of an overload protection which responds reliably when a damaging force is detected, works without parts to be replaced and reduces the disturbance times. For this purpose, a holder (7) projects with a driver (9) from outside through an indentation (10) in the roller track (5) on the indexing wheel (1) and projects on the inside. The holder is brought into this position by a spring element (11, 14). The spring element consists of a tension band (11) which is articulated on the holder (7) and on the indexing wheel (1) and which partially surrounds the roller track (5) on the outside.
