COUPLING MEMBER FOR OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTION

PURPOSE:To reduce the coupling loss of an optical fiber connection part by forming a cut part to the outer-periphery center part of a sleeve for connection so that a sleeve internal-diameter part is exposed within a range smaller than the external diameter of an optical fiber in the section of the sleeve. CONSTITUTION:The cut part 12 is provided to the outer-periphery center part 12 of the sleeve 10 for connection. This cut part 12 has depth (d) and part of the internal diameter is exposed in the cross section to width (a). This width (a) is set smaller than the external diameter of the optical fiber and the axial length L of the cut part 12 should only be five times as large as the external diameter of the optical fiber. An adhesive 20 is inserted into the sleeve 10 from the cut part 12 to fix the optical fiber 5 to the abutting part for the optical fiber 5. A seal part 15 which is fit in the cut part 12 is provided to the center part of an upper housing 14. Further, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is formed on both inner- periphery surfaces of the upper housing and an optical fiber core 4 is fixed when upper and lower housings 14 and 16 are combined. Consequently, the loss of the connection part is reduced.
