PURPOSE:To make information on article available with identification of the position of the boundary of the article to be transferred, by forming a belt-shaped heating surface on the undersurface of the article on a conveyor with the projection of a heating ray thereon to measure the surface temperature of the heating surface at the fixed position on the downstream. CONSTITUTION:Article M to be transferred is loaded on several lines of conveyor chains 1 longitudinally in contact with one another and moved at a constant speed in the direction of the arrow making the article being transferred flush in the undersurface thereof. A heating ray (r) is projected on the undersurface of the article M from a stationary heating ray projector 2 provided below a conveyor belt 1 to heat the undersurface thereof evenly in a belt. At this point, as the amount of the heat diffusion is larger at the boundary positions 3 of the article being transferred than at other parts of the heating surface, the surface temperature of the heating surface lowers locally at the boundary positions 3 thereof as compared with other parts thereof. A temperature sensor 4 is provided immediately after the heating ray projector 2 to measure the temperature of the heating surface and the point where the measured value lowers to the minimum value is identified to be the boundary positions 3 of the article. |
