PURPOSE:To arrange so that a holding roller may automatically be set at an appropriate location by positioning a pape holding device through the movement of a carriage based on location information of a storage means in a condition where the paper holding device is separated from a platen when the paper holding roller is positioned. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 2 at an extreme right edge is moved to the left, the right and left edges of paper are detected by light emitting element 11 and light receiving element 12 of an actuating member 10 and a paper width is obtained by a counter value of carriage movement and stored. Next, a holding roller 6 is separated from a platen 1 by the counter-clockwise rotation of a solenoid 8, and then is fitted to the actuating member 10 by the shaft to the right of the carriage 2. After this process, the holding roller is pushed to travel to an initial setting location on the right together with the actuating member. Then the solenoid 8 is rotated to the right to shift the carriage to an extreme right end and the holding roller 6 is positioned and set at an appropriate location by the movement to the left of the carriage 2 and the counter-clockwise and clockwise rotation of the solenoid 8 combined together according to stored paper with information. |
