PURPOSE:To arrange so that a paper holding roller may be correctly set at an appropriate location by detecting the size of inserted paper automatically and setting the paper holding roller automatically according to the detected size data. CONSTITUTION:If paper is detected by a light emitting element 11 and a light receiving element 12 in the actuating member 10 of a carriage 2, paper feed is suspended and the carriage 2 is moved to the right end. Next, the carriage 2 is moved to the let and a paper width is detected by the scan of the light emitting and receiving elements 11, 12 and also by a counter means. After these procedures, a paper holding roller 6 is separated from a platen 1 by rotating a rotary solenoid 8 so that the roller moves to a location where it fits to the actuating member 10. Then the holding roller 6 is moved to the right initial locatioi by moving the carriage to the right, and the carriage 2 is caused to travel to the extreme right location by revesing the solenoid 8. Thereafter, the right and left holding rollers 6, 6 are to be set at an appropriate location according to the width of paper for detection by moving the carriage 2 to the left and repeating the action of the solenoid 8. |
