In this method, the medium is firstly guided in an essentially closed circuit via an inlet flow path from the outlet (12b) of the primary flow path of a heat exchanger (13) to the inlet (2) of the treatment device (1). Subsequently, the medium is led via an outlet flow path to the outlet (3) of the treatment device (1) to the inlet (12a) of the said primary flow path. The ductwork used to carry out the method has two ducts (6, 8), which are arranged coaxially one inside the other, through which the medium flows in a countercurrent and whose inner duct (8) is a pipeline forming the outlet flow path, while the annular space defined between this inner duct (8) and the outer duct (6) surrounding the same forms the inlet flow path.
