PURPOSE:To improve the conversion of the titled compound in the catalytic hydration of a cycloalkene, without causing the problems such as the removal of by-products, short catalytic life, etc., by using a catalyst system composed of an aromatic sulfonic acid and a specific compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is produced by the catalytic hydration of a cycloalkene under atmospheric or positive pressure at 50-300 deg.C, especially 80-200 deg.C in the presence of catalytic system composed of an aromatic sulfonic acid and silica gel and/or a metal hydroxysulfate. the aromatic sulfonic acid is e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, polysulfonic acid, etc. Any commercially available silica gel can be used as the silica gel used as a component of the catalyst. It may be fine powder of several mesh or granules, and is crushed preferably with an agate mortar. The amount of water used in the reaction is preferably 1- 500mol per 1mol of the cycloalkene. |
