The invention relates to the medicinal use of pyruvic acid oximes of the formula I <IMAGE> in which R is hydrogen, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, cinnamyloxy, phenylamino, phenyl-N-alkylamino, phenylmercapto, an aryl or aryloxy group whose aryl radical can be substituted one or more times, A is a straight-chain or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkylene chain which has up to 10 C atoms and is optionally substituted one or more times by halogen or hydroxyl, and R1 is hydrogen, a C1-C8 alkyl group which is optionally substituted one or more times by halogen, hydroxyl, nitrile, phenyl or carboxyl, or is nitrile or formyl, and their physiologically acceptable salts, esters and amides for the prophylaxis and/or treatment of cardiovascular disorders, especially ischaemic cardiac disorders such as heart failure, angina pectoris or myocardial infarct.
