PURPOSE:To realize an accurate focus detecting action with respect to an object regardless of the posture of a camera held by selecting a ragne-finding point corresponding to the posture of the camera based on posture information by a means detecting the posture of the camera. CONSTITUTION:A focus detector 6 is provided with a line sensor 6f consisting of a photoelectric conversion element receiving luminous flux from plural areas. Based on the signal thereof, the focus detection for the plural object areas can be executed. Besides, a mercury switch 27 detecting the posture state of the camera with respect to the direction of gravity is provided. Based on the posture information of the camera obtained by the signal of the switch 27, a focusing state detected by the detector 6 is selected. That means, the main range-finding point of the object is selected by obtaining the defocus quantity of the range-finding point whose range-finding can be executed and detecting the nearest point from the obtained defocus quantity. |
