PURPOSE:To heat or cool without unevenness by providing a gas suction port on the surface of a heating and cooling roll around which a metallic strip is wound, and bringing the metallic strip into close contact with the surface of the roll with the negative pressure of the port. CONSTITUTION:A heating and cooling roll 20 is formed by uniting an inner roll shell 21 and an outer roll shell 22 to a body by shrink fitting, etc. Plural vents 11 are formed at regular intervals in the circumferential direction and along the lengthwise direction between the inner roll shell 21 and the outer roll shell 22, and a gas suction hole 23 is perforated uniformly from the vent 11 to the surface of the outer oil shell 22. When a medium 10 is passed through the inside of the roll 20 to heat or cool a steel material 4, the air in the vicinity of the surface of the roll 20 is sucked by a blower connected to the vent 11 from the gas suction hole 23 throug the vent 11. Consequenty, the steel material 4 is forcibly brought into close contact with the surface of the roll 20 by the produced negative pressure, and the insufficient contact is prevented. |
