The heavy fuel system for a combustion engine has a regenerator (4), the first inlet of which communicates with the conduit (3) for the cold fuel and the first outlet of which communicates, via a conduit (5) for the preheated fuel, with a reaction chamber (6) for carrying out the cracking process for heavy fuel, which chamber communicates via a conduit (9) for the vapour/liquid fuel mixture with the second inlet of the regenerator (4), the second outlet of which is connected via a conduit (10) for the vapour/liquid fuel mixture to a device (11) for separating the fuel vapour phase from the liquid phase, and the system furthermore has a cooler (12) for condensing the vapour phase of the cracking products, a recirculating pump (17) and a high-pressure pump (15) connected to the engine cylinder. The cooler (12) is accommodated in the phase-separation device (11), which is connected by one outlet for the liquid phase to the high-pressure pump (15) and by the other outlet for the liquid phase to the high-pressure pump (15) and the recirculating pump (17).
