PURPOSE:To prolong the life of an ion engine by comprising a discharge chamber for a neutralizer, gas introducing system for the neutralizer, electrodes for the neutralizer and induction coil for the neutralizer. CONSTITUTION:In an ion engine 16, a discharge chamber 9 for a neutralizer is installed adjacent to a main discharge chamber 8, and ionization plasma is produced by introducing Hg gas 14 into the discharge chamber 9 through a gas introducing system 10 for the neutralizer and striking elctrons accelerated by an induction coil 12 for the neutralizer. Accordingly, a neutralizer can be constituted without using a hollow cathode and an ion engine having a long life can be designed. |
