The ends 211, 212 of at least two optical fibres 201, 202, which are preprepared with a view to connecting them, are adhesively bonded, face to face, on to a connection part 208 by means of a transparent curable liquid medium. During the adhesive bonding, the connection part 208 is stressed in a manner suitable for creating an extension of the part along the optical fibres 201, 202, this stressing being stopped after curing the liquid medium, thereby resulting in a prestress. The extensional stressing of the connection part 208 is advantageously produced by bending the connection part against a concave surface of a support block 204. <IMAGE>
