Apparatus for setting and drying hair comprising a hair setting and drying unit which is connected to a suction fan for sucking in part of the hair into a spiral channel inside the unit. The walls of the spiral channel (22) consist of a heating foil element which directly heats the wet hair and evaporates the water and, if necessary, heats the hair further.
