AIR-CONDUCTING CONVERTOR FOR STRING TRIMMER

An air-conducting convertor (10) for a powered string trimmer is disclosed, wherein the trimmer to be converted has a power shaft (13) with opposing proximal and distal ends, a power-providing unit (14) disposed upon the proximal end thereof, and a string head coupling (19) disposed on the distal end thereof. The converting apparatus includes a collar bracket (20) adjacent the distal end of the trimmer, and struts (26) projecting from the collar bracket (20) and supporting a surrounding fan shroud (42). A fan (46) having blades (52) pitched to move air distally through the shroud (42) is coupled with the trimmer's standard trimmer head coupling (19). A curved, rotatable air duct (62) with interior baffle plates (75, 77) is engaged with the shroud (42) and projects distally therefrom. A debris bag (88) is suspended from the trimmer's shaft (13); it has a collector portion (82) which is engaged with the proximal rim (38) of the fan shroud (42), so when a fan pitched to move air proximally is mounted on the trimmer, the apparatus is able to act as a vacuum. A caster (76) supports the apparatus above a surface in both the blowing and vacuum modes.
