Rapid heavy vehicles stress the carriageway often a thousand times more than passenger cars. The problem can be reduced with wide tyres, double tyres and double axles, but not resolved. Track-laying vehicles are also out of the question because they are of a very complex design and are costly to maintain and do not permit high speeds. Above all, the invention is to provide an inexpensive, rapid running wheel with a large contact surface of the tyre. For this purpose, the concept of the running wheel which is reduced to a running and guide ring is adopted. However, all the constructional measures which are intended to keep the guide ring in an approximately circular shape during travel are dispensed with here. The flattening on the carriageway is desired and is even constructionally promoted in diverse ways. This takes place for example by means of a flat support of the guide ring on the body of the vehicle or separation and insertion of horizontal elements into the guide ring.
