A rotating contact for electrical switches is described, especially for high-voltage interruptor switches having contact blades, having at least one contact piece (6) which can pivot and is supported on a second contact piece (1) such that it can rotate. Such rotating contacts must be able to carry high operating currents continuously without an unacceptably high level of heating occurring even after frequent operation. In order to prevent the contact surfaces rubbing and the electrical contact resistance increasing, chambers (7), which are arranged radially around the rotation axis, are constructed in the contact surface of that contact piece (6) by means of which it rests on the other contact piece, while the contact surface of the other contact piece (1) is flat or likewise has chambers (7). In one embodiment, the chambers (7) are constructed in the form of annular segments and are arranged at uniform distances from one another in an annulus centered on the rotation axis. One contact piece (1) can have a flat, circular contact surface which is surrounded by an annular depression (8). One contact piece (1) in consequence rests on the other contact piece (6) only by means of the contact surfaces between the chambers (7). When the rotating contact is operated, the products of the contact wear between the contact surfaces are deposited into the chambers (7). The chambers (7) can contain a contact lubricant and the contact surfaces can be smoothed by stamping. <IMAGE>
